Sec 5 1st Round
CAMDEN NY After a long bus ride, the
Canandaigua football team needed a quarter to work out the kinds. Once the
Braves got past a scoreless first quarter, they rolled to a 27-13 win over
Section 3's Camden Friday night.
"I'm really, really proud of my
kids right now," said CA coach Dave Nieman.
"To travel two and a half hours and get off the bus and play the way they did says a lot about this team's emotion and heart. Camden is a good, tough, physical team and to play them as we did after a trip like that was just great. I mean these kids got back after midnight Saturday morning and showed up to volunteer to help for a youth football practice at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Just a great bunch of kids."

The Blue Devils' PAT was no good and CA (3-0 overall) led 7-6 at the half.
The Braves then lit things up in the third quarter, scoring three times. The first came on a trick play that Nieman said he has had in his back pocket just waiting for the right time. It was a pass from quarterback Marshall Johnson to wide out John Klein. Klein, a QB when he was younger, then tossed a bullet to Justin Ruscio, who was open in the end zone.
Johnson next scored on a 1-yard run followed by 12yard TD pass to Ruscio.
Nieman had special praise for the defensive play of Sean Regan.
"His defensive play was amazing," he said. "He was all over the field, making 15 tackles and also getting three big carries for us on the offensive side. And Justin (Ruscio) broke out of his shell for us, also."
