CA quarterback Marshall Johnson added another 92 yards on the ground on 11 carries with junior Tim Walker adding 133 more yards on nine carries. It was Walker’s 89-yard scamper down the sideline late in the fourth quarter that put the icing on the Braves road win.
Johnson also found the time to throw for 204 yards on 12 of 24 passing, including two touchdown tosses of 22 yards to Brian Scheetz and 16 yards to Justin Ruscio.
“Nick did great tonight,” Johnson said. “Everybody kind of jokes around and calls him, “Plowhorse.”He runs hard.”
CA coach David Neiman also had plenty to say about Michalko after the game.
“Nick showed us last week that he is the man that can run the ball and he did it again tonight,” Neiman said. “He just runs hard and he knows the offense. I’m really pleased with how hard he runs the ball right now.”

“They were giving me a lot of pressure up front,” Michalko said. “They were sending blitzes at me. Their defense was playing pretty tough.” Which he can attest to having twice come to the sideline after offensive possessions with a bloody nose.
“But the O-line was just doing a really good job of opening up holes for me. The split-side was giving me some big holes and I just ran what they gave me. Every yard I got was hard earned.”
CA got on the board first on their second possession of the game, capping a 12-play drive with a 10-yard Michalko run around the left end. After a Regan interception that stopped a Newark offensive drive 16-yards out, the Braves scored their second touchdown on a 22-yard pass from Johnson to Scheetz.
David Lee Tack connected on a 65-yard pass to Ollie Smith to cut the defict on the ensuing Newark possession. The Braves took their next possession and marched down field on 11 plays, scoring with 53 seconds left in the half on a 6-yard Michalko run up the middle.
In the second half, the Braves scored twice more.
The first on a Johnson to Ruscio 16-yard pass and the second on Walker’s 89-yard run.
“Marshall is the center of our offense,” Neiman said. “We had some dropped balls tonight and I just loved his composure. You know, he was trying to pick the receivers up after drops and he also had some tremendous runs tonight.
In particular, Neiman should be pleased with defensive players like junior’s Tom LaCrosse and Ryan Stanney and senior Sean Regan. LaCrosse had 11 tackles and one fumble recovery in the game while Regan had nine tackles and one interception and Stanney seven tackles. Tack was 10-for-28 for
194 yards for Newark (1-1).

“I think the game was closer than the score indicates,” said Newark coach Mike McGavisk. “I thought it was a hard fought game. I think we both battled and I think both teams made some mistakes. Our kids hung in there. Canandaigua is a very good team. They wore us down down the stretch a little bit. But I thought it was a good game.

What’s the saying? Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow shall keep...the high school football fan away from his or her hometown team’s game.
OK, slight variation there, but that was the point Friday at Newark as despite rain before, during, and after the game between the Reds and the Braves, both stands and most of both sideline fences were full.
The visiting Braves, pulled out a hard-earned 33-6 win Friday.
With the inclement weather inhibiting every type of an offensive charge, the Braves won on the ground, led by Nick Michalko who ended the game with two touchdowns on 22 carries for 104 yards.
